This is probably the quickest Illustration Friday image i've done yet - basically just a quick sketch scanned into Illustrator and finished off with Live Trace. Eh. I kind of like the rough-edge style but i really wish i had the time to do a cleaner sketch and try it out that way, too.
I'll work on making some prints of this tomorrow. It's been a busy day and i still have to pack for a little trip to Philly. Yay.
[upd] Prints available here.
Not to engage in too much self-pimping, but i really love how the 4"x8" version came out. The extra space makes it look all lonely and foreboding, more so than the original. And at that size, even the most-expensive lustre print is only $2.99. 1 comments

Kickass awesome writer Kurt Vonnegut died last night.
Aside from being a good writer, he was just plain ol' cool. For example, he recently did interviews in Second Life. Freakin' Second Life. I suppose it's possible he just did the voice recordings, and someone else logged in to create and control his avatar, but in the interviews it's made fairly clear he at least knows what Second Life is, which is more than can be said about most eighty-four-year-olds.

About a month after i fell behind, and i'm finally caught up with my massive sketch backlog. Yay! 0 comments
// IF: Snap

I've never seen anyone do this Z-style of snapping in real life before. On TV, yes, virtually any time i watch anything with my little sister - and it's always either the "evil" cheerleader doing it, in an oh-bitch-you-just-got-pwned! sorta way, or a complete geek doing it, in a trying-too-hard-to-be-cool-and-failing-miserably way (and why are the cheerleaders almost always the bad guys in kid's TV nowadays? Seriously, it's like they're trying to say, "If you're a rich jock, you'll have all the friends you could ever want, but you'll be evil! Oh, you don't want to be evil? Well, then you have to be a dork with only two friends. Choose now! Muahahahaha!" Kim Possible is the only real exception to that pattern i can think of - and Betty, the evil co-captain of the cheerleading team, is still richer and more popular than Kim.)
This is one of those annoying pictures i didn't have time to finish properly. It came down to a choice between "stop now when it looks finished, but badly finished" or "keep working so there's two different quality levels in the picture, making it obviously incomplete, but with good parts here and there."
I'm pretty sleepy right now, so that may have skewed my decision. 1 comments

01 April 2007 // News: Mm, widgetness.
Today i added a LibraryThing widget to the front page that shows whatever artsy book i'm currently reading. Clicking the cover goes to Amazon to buy the book and clicking the title goes to LibraryThing to look at LT goodness. Also i have an account as an Amazon associate so i get money if you click the cover and buy that way… just sayin', if you were planning on buying something like Illustrating Children's Books anyway, that's a good a link as any.Labels: news
